Posted by on Oct 19, 2014 in Press Releases | Comments Off on NDM Disappointed with Poor Handling of Ebola Crisis by Government of Jamaica

October 17, 2014 The National Democratic Movement has expressed alarm and disappointment in the poor leadership and mismanagement displayed by the Jamaican Government in its handling of the potential threat to Jamaica by the Ebola virus. The NDM is upset with how slowly the Portia Simpson Miller administration acted in placing a ban on travellers/flights from the Ebola affected countries in Africa, from coming into Jamaica and that, after other Caribbean islands had announced a ban on travellers from those countries, the Government of Jamaica was still tardy in its reaction – imposing a ban only after exposing Jamaicans to the deadly Ebola disease, with the entry of two Liberian travellers into the island occurred earlier this week. The NDM said the government, after failing the people of Jamaica in its mishandling of the Chikungunya epidemic has now bungled...

A National Cleanup Needed

Posted by on Oct 15, 2014 in Press Releases | Comments Off on A National Cleanup Needed

15 October 2014 National Democratic Movement is very concerned that the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition are using the serious crisis of the Chikungunya outbreak in Jamaica to continue the distribution of scarce funds to Members of Parliament. Under the guise of cleaning up Jamaica, most MP’s may do what they do best! Waste, squander and corruptly spend the money through the political organizations and at the end of the spending spree very little drains, gullies, swamp and dump areas will be cleaned. A few months after the expenditure is complete and pockets have been lined, Jamaica may be likely to still be as filthy as it is now. Will another $126 million dollars be down the drain? The NDM is calling on the Prime Minister and Opposition Leader to immediately change the program! Call out...

The President of the National Democratic Movement, Peter Townsend, has expressed sadness and outrage on the death of Mr. Jason Forbes, who went to the Spanish Town Hospital on Tuesday afternoon, complaining about stomach pain, but received no treatment and died on Wednesday morning on the hospital floor. The NDM President is calling on the Minister of Health to order a probe into the incident and for the management of the Spanish Town Hospital to give a full account to the nation, of how a human being, citizen of Jamaica, was treated in such callous, uncaring and inhumane manner which led to the loss of yet another precious life, while in the hands of agents of the State. According to reports, Mr. Forbes who was lying on the hospital floor, in pain, pleading for assistance from health care workers,...

Massive Public Education on Health Issues

Posted by on Sep 26, 2014 in Press Releases | Comments Off on Massive Public Education on Health Issues

The National Democratic Movement is very concerned that despite repeated calls from all sectors of the society the dogmatic approach by both the Minister and the Ministry of Health regarding their handling of the current Chikungunya outbreak is alarming. The limited public education program has still not been fully communicated to every citizen in the country. The Ministry’s poor handling of the shortage of adequate medication for the joint pains, which accompany the illness and the little or no information on how to treat the rashes, has been pathetic. The NDM is disappointed that the Minister and the Ministry seem to be suppressing the figures regarding the number of cases of Chikungunya existing on the island, seemingly in an attempt to give the world that the government is on top of the situation regarding the virus outbreak. The NDM...
